Operations – Change Management – The Psychology of Resistance

It is equally likely that you wil meet resistance to any change you want to make. The way that you deal with change will be an enormous factor in determining your success. I am not a professional or trained psychologist so none of what I about to say is based on anything but my experience. The best way to effect change in the face of resistance, is to first understand the real basis for that resistance. You will frequently hear quite rational sounding objections like; “that’s more work for us” “we have tried that and it didn’t work” “the vendor will never agree to do that” “you’ll have to train everyone again” “that’s too difficult” “that’s too expensive” These may be true to some extent but they can all be dealt with in a practical way.
